Bringing the Human Touch to Stores

Digital native brands, from Amazon to Rihanna’s Savage X Fenty, are opening brick-and-mortar stores and, established traditional retailers, like TJX, Ross Stores, and Dick’s Sporting Goods’ Public Lands and House of Sport stores, are expanding their store count. Seems like physical retail isn’t going anywhere!
Brick-and-mortar is a great platform for customer acquisition and showrooming especially when it comes to fashion, accessories, and beauty because it offers consumers the opportunity to try, smell, and test products.
A study conducted at the end of 2021 by Cotton Incorporated found that, despite the ongoing pandemic restrictions, consumers in the US are becoming more comfortable shopping in-store.
  • 72% of consumers purchased clothing in a physical store in November 2021. That’s slightly higher than the 71% who purchased apparel online during the same time frame.
  • 54% expect to shop in a physical store more in the first quarter of 2022.
  • 40% said they will have a stronger preference for clothes shopping in a physical store now than before the pandemic.

Shoppable Holograms Debut at New York Fashion Week

Through a partnership between Yahoo, Keds, and designer Maisie Wilen, larger-than-life holograms were launched at the Fall/Winter 2022 New York Fashion Week. Volumetric technology was used to create the catwalk experience of the future which showcased 28 seven-foot-tall AR 3D hologram models. The holograms, along with a GIF lookbook for the collection, were fully shoppable. The AR models can be transported onto a user’s phone, where a buy-now button is available next to the virtual item.

#Report: It’s Predicted that by 2026, 25% of People will Spend One Hour Per Day in the Metaverse

By 2026, 25% of people will spend at least one hour a day in the metaverse for work, shopping, education, social, or entertainment, according to Gartner, a technological research and consulting firm. In addition, the report estimates that 30% of companies across the globe will have services and products ready for this platform as well.
Gartner defines a metaverse as “a collective virtual shared space, created by the convergence of virtually-enhanced physical and digital reality. A metaverse is persistent, providing enhanced immersive experiences.” Gartner expects that a complete metaverse will be device-independent and will not be owned by a single vendor: it will have its own virtual economy enabled by digital currencies and nonfungible tokens (NFTs).
#ProInsights: Though the metaverse remains a fuzzy concept, a growing number of brands and retailers are jumping on the bandwagon. Retailers will soon be able to buy digital land to construct virtual stores or become a leaseholder in virtual malls selling via immersive commerce.
