A new survey from the digital bank One illuminates some of the key retail trends that will shape the 2021 holiday season and the 2022 retail landscape.
Here are some of the top trends:
  1. A rise in non-physical gifts like experiences, cryptocurrencies, and gift certificates.
  2. 67% of Americans are highly concerned about credit card fraud this season, especially as sold-out retailers push them to less well-known ecommerce sites.
  3. A massive uptick in the “reseller” market, including pop-ups, as traditional retailers sell out early and experience price surges.
  4. A decline in usage of debt to finance holiday shopping, as the pandemic has led to much greater frugality (even amongst those with stable jobs and incomes).
#FunFacts from the survey include: Many Americans have radically changed the kinds of gifts they will be giving. Changes in what they will be giving include gifts for:
  • around the house (46%)
  • gift certificates (32%)
  • experiences instead of physical goods (25%)

TikTok Shares New Insights into Holiday Shopping Trends

TikTok played a role in a 2020 Black Friday purchase for 80% of users, the company said, and 40% of users bought a product after seeing it on the platform.
